General
Absolutely. There are no ads, no soliciting, and no money exchanged through the hub.
Of course the Hub can be used for topics beyond Arkansas History. Arkansas has hardly existed within a bubble and connecting the state’s history to prevailing themes in American and World history is an important part of teaching and understanding the state. While we encourage everyone to use the hub for whatever they would like, we do require groups, documents and discussion to pertain to the teaching profession, history education, and/or the hub.
No. All visitors to the site can access all resources, groups, and uploaded documents on the site. In order to contribute to discussion, upload your own materials, or send messages to other users, you must create a profile.
Profiles
This could be for a couple of reasons. Most likely, the system and/or your computer has yet to recognize the new image – it should appear very shortly. Another possibility is that the image you’ve chosen to upload is too large of file. An ideal avatar image will be a .jpg or .png, less than 1MB in file size yet larger than 150×150 pixels in dimensions.
Again, there are variety of reasons this could be occurring – it may be a problem on your end or on our end. Either way, we recommend that documents are less than 10MB in total size. Repeated attempts to upload a very large document could crash the server and result in hours of downtime. Though the Hub accepts a wide variety of file-types, some are not allowed for security reasons and may not always result in a warning error. Most file formats for documents, images, and audio/video should work.
Groups
In order for users to post new topics or upload documents to group pages, you must be a member of the group. To join a group, you simply navigate to the group page and click join button next to the group’s avatar. Non-members of groups can still post replies to topics and download documents uploaded by members.
Resources
Like most things, the Arkansas History Hub is always a work in progress. There are vast resources littered about the web for teachers and our goal is to place the highest quality and most up to date links at your disposal. Obviously it’s impossible to include every single field trip destination, lesson plan, or research source. If you find a broken link or see that we’ve missed a valuable resource, please contact us and we’ll see about adding it for you.
